Workshop

Renewable fuels for a resilient society by Dutch Platform Renewable Fuels & German InnoFuels

Joint Workshop: Renewable Fuels for a resilient society

The Dutch Platform Renewable Fuels and the German Platform InnoFuels invite you to join our joint workshop on how renewable fuels can contribute to the resilience of our societies.  We aim to have stakeholders develop propositions together that can organise improved energy resilience, making use of already commercially available renewable fuel conversion technologies, that produce drop-in renewable fuels, distributed and produced in existing infrastructure, and with European feedstock.

We are pleased to invite you to our Workshop, which will take place on 06.November 2025 from 09:00 to 16:00 at House of Logistics & Mobility (HOLM) GmbH, Frankfurt am Main.

Renewable fuels produced in Europe from domestic resources like renewable electricity and biomass will contribute an essential role in diversifying the energy source in Europe, strengthen strategic autonomy and support climate goals. The newly adopted EU Stockpiling Strategy offers a timely opportunity to rethink energy resilience. It aims to improve crisis preparedness — whether for pandemics, military conflicts, blackouts or extreme weather events.

One key instrument is the Critical Stock Obligation (CSO), which requires Member States to maintain fuel reserves equivalent to 90 days of net imports. Currently focused on fossil fuels, we propose updating the CSO to include a share of renewable fuels—especially drop-in fuels made from European feedstock using existing infrastructure and proven technologies. These ideas will be discussed at our workshop in Frankfurt on 6 November, where stakeholders will co-develop proposals for a more resilient energy system.

Visit to the Energy Lab of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

Additionally, we invite stakeholders to join us on the 7th of November for a visit to the Energy Lab of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where we will see, among others, Power-to-X technology, and integrated solutions for sector coupling (heat, mobility, electricity) at pilot scale. Find more information about the Energy Lab visit and register by clicking here.
