Mini symposium 'Recovery of raw materials and energy from residual streams' & Inaugural speech Jappe de Best (Avans)

On February 3rd 2022 Jappe de Best, professor of Biobased Resources & Energy, will be presenting his inaugural speech. Prior to the inaugural speech a mini-symposium is organised by the research group Biobased Resources & Energy which will take you on a journey of some of their recent projects.

Avans Hogeschool is part of the Learning Community Renewable Fuels, in which the Platform has joined their forces with education institutions and business to increase the share of renewable fuels (see this site). More information about the Learning Community will follow soon.

The invitation and the programme is as follows:

"The event will take place at St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda from 12.00 am (noon) until 5.30 pm. The inaugural speech can also be joined online.

Recent climate changes, environmental deterioration and biodiversity loss have shown that it is not possible to maintain our current unlimited extraction of earth’s resources such as oil, precious metals and nutrients. It is clear that we need to make the transition to a sustainable circular society. Fortunately humans have always been very resourceful in coming up with solutions to wicked problems. One of these solutions is the valorisation of what are now considered as residual streams or waste.

Mini-symposium
Prior to the inaugural lecture of Jappe de Best, the research group Biobased Resources & Energy organises a mini-symposium about the recovery of raw materials and energy from residual streams. Find out more about the future of renewable fuels, how to make bioplastics from sewage, what you can do with cashew nut shells, and how we can determine if products from waste are more sustainable and environmental friendly.

Inaugural speech
During his inaugural speech, Jappe will take you on a journey about the past, present and future of the recovery of valuable resources from residual streams. How can this resource recovery contribute to the realization of a new circular and sustainable society and what is the link with the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals? Which challenges do we face and how can we overcome them?

Covid regulations
For the time being, we assume that the mini-symposium and the inaugural speech can take place in Breda on 3rd of February. The inaugural speech can also be followed online. We will of course keep you informed of any changes.
