Webinar
IEA Bioenergy: Progress and Challenges in Assessing Biomass Availability
Background
Policymakers, researchers and industry leaders need reliable data about biomass supplies that can be mobilised at reasonable cost in order to facilitate transitions to sustainable fuels, chemicals, and materials. But more work is needed understand the real potential for sustainable biomass supply chain mobilization. IEA Bioenergy is organising a webinar which reviews the status of recent efforts to develop comparable biomass supply estimates around the world and shares practical insights on how to better understand global biomass potentials.
The first presentation will introduce a practical framework for categorizing different types of biomass—such as crop residues, forestry byproducts, and dedicated energy crops—making it easier to compare and aggregate data. The second presentation will review a recent analysis of data from nations around the world, the challenges encountered, and corresponding recommendations for increasing future standardization. The webinar aims to support informed decision making by sharing updates on how biomass resources around the globe are being mapped and measured.
