Shell cancels biofuel production position in Port of Rotterdam

The Dutch Platform for Renewable Fuels regrets Shell's decision to stop the construction of a biofuel production plant in Port of Rotterdam. Of course, Shell can contract renewable fuels in other parts of the world and sell them to European and Dutch parties with an obligation to meet the European and Dutch targets for sustainable aviation fuels #SAF, renewable fuels for #road and (international)#shipping. It is a loss for the development of an economic proposition in Europe and in the Netherlands, not only for green fuels, but also for setting up value chains for green chemistry. And it affects energy security for Europe. The discontinuation of this plant affects the European production of volumes for #SAF needed to meet the European mandatory mandates in 2030. The platform calls on the government to take a closer look at the market failure in scaling up European production and to address the government failure in this regard. Urgent government intervention in Europe and at member states level is required to improve regulations and policy conditions.
Loes Knotter, Executive Director of the Platform was invited on the Dutch national radio to share her perspective on the decision of Shell to stop the construction of the biofuel production plant. You can listen to her interview on the 'Geld of je level' programme of NPO radio by clicking here.
