The Dutch Platform Renewable Fuels was invited to present during the National Conference for Sustainable Mobility in November 2025. Executive Director, Loes Knotter gave a presentation on a recent analysis showing the breakdown of the price at the pump of different renewable fuel options according to different possible scenarios.

The analysis is based on several assumptions but is intended to capture market dynamics taking into account the prices from ETS 2 , excise duty and EREs.

The main takeaway from this price analysis is that introducing a different rate in excise duty would play a significant role in making the price of renewable fuels more attractive. At the moment, there is a strong link between the price of fossil fuels and renewable fuels. We must find ways to decouple prices for renewable fuels from fossil fuels to make renewable fuels the option of choice.
